Best UK Premier Bank Accounts in 2026

We compare the UK’s main Premier and status bank accounts from Barclays, HSBC, NatWest and Lloyds.

If you earn a high income or hold substantial savings, a status account can look appealing.

These accounts usually require around £75,000 to £100,000 of income, or £100,000+ in savings or investments. In return, banks promise perks like travel insurance, cashback, lounge access and better banking support.

But not all of them are built the same way.

Some are really just lifestyle bundles. Others offer meaningful travel cover or international banking features. In this guide, we’ve ranked the big four high street status accounts from weakest to strongest.

What do status accounts usually offer?

Most of these accounts are built around a mix of:

  • preferential savings or mortgage rates

  • travel insurance

  • cashback or rewards

  • airport lounge access

  • concierge-style perks

  • international banking features

The problem is that some include those benefits by default, while others make you pay extra to unlock the good stuff.

4. Lloyds Premier

Best for: people who want lifestyle perks and a few everyday extras

Lloyds Premier comes last because it does not really feel like a true premium banking product.

It costs £15 a month, although that fee is refunded if you pay in £5,000 a month or hold £100,000 in qualifying savings or investments.

What you get:

  • Bupa Digital Family GP and Wellbeing

  • 1% cashback on most debit card spending, capped at £10 a month

  • a lifestyle perk such as Disney+, cinema tickets or coffee offers

  • enhanced customer support

The bigger problem is what is missing. There is no airport lounge access, no bundled travel insurance, no airline rewards angle and no real international banking infrastructure.

Verdict: Lloyds Premier feels more like a cashback current account with a health subscription than a real status account.

3. Barclays Premier

Best for: Avios collectors

Barclays Premier takes third place. It is more interesting than Lloyds, and it has the lowest income threshold of the four, with eligibility starting at £75,000 income or £100,000 in savings and investments.

The base account is fairly light. You get Premier support, Apple TV+ and access to better mortgage and savings options, but the real appeal comes from the add-ons.

The two main add-ons are:

  • Avios Rewards – useful if you actively collect Avios and want a joining bonus, monthly points and an anniversary bonus

  • Travel Plus Pack – adds travel insurance, breakdown cover, lounge visits and concierge-style perks

The problem is that once you add the good stuff, Barclays stops looking cheap. If you want both the Avios engine and the travel bundle, the annual cost climbs quickly.

Verdict: Barclays can be excellent for Avios collectors, but it is not the strongest all-round package.

2. NatWest Premier

Best for: families and frequent travellers who want everything in one place

NatWest Premier comes second because it offers the strongest protection bundle of the four, but you pay for it.

NatWest has several Premier tiers, but the one that really matters here is Premier Reward Black.

What it includes:

  • worldwide family travel insurance

  • AA breakdown cover

  • mobile phone insurance

  • home emergency cover

  • airport lounge access

  • concierge features

  • fee-free international spending

For families or frequent travellers, that is a genuinely strong package. It is the kind of account that can replace several separate products if you would otherwise pay for travel insurance, breakdown cover and lounge access individually.

The downside is the cost. At £36 a month, it is the most expensive clear-cut option here.

Verdict: NatWest offers the strongest “all-in-one” bundle, but you need to use the benefits enough to justify the price.

1. HSBC Premier

Best for: international professionals and families who want strong core benefits without paid packs

HSBC Premier comes out on top because it includes the most meaningful benefits in the base account, without relying on expensive monthly add-ons.

To qualify, you generally need £100,000 income, £100,000 in savings or investments, or Premier status in another country.

What you get:

  • worldwide travel insurance

  • digital healthcare services

  • 24/7 Premier support

  • Global View and Global Transfers

  • access to lending and relationship banking support

The international side is what really sets HSBC apart. For globally mobile professionals, expats or families with money in more than one country, these are not just nice-to-have perks. They are genuinely useful tools.

It also feels stronger than Lloyds on healthcare and more complete than Barclays or NatWest in the base account itself, because you do not have to bolt on paid packs to unlock the most meaningful features.

Verdict: HSBC is the most rounded status account overall, especially if you value international banking as much as lifestyle perks.

Quick ranking

  • 1st: HSBC Premier – best overall

  • 2nd: NatWest Premier – best paid protection bundle

  • 3rd: Barclays Premier – best for Avios collectors

  • 4th: Lloyds Premier – weakest overall

Final thoughts

The key question with status accounts is not which one sounds the most impressive. It is which one you would actually use enough to justify the banking relationship.

Lloyds is mostly a lifestyle and cashback play.
Barclays works best for Avios loyalists.
NatWest is the strongest bundled protection package, but it comes at a high monthly cost.
HSBC is the most complete option overall, especially if you value international banking features.

That is why HSBC Premier comes out on top.
